China Special:

Peach blossoms brings the season of true love

In China, peach blossoms are a symbol not only of the spring season but also of significant Chinese culture and mythical beliefs (The best time for seeing flowers in bloom in Beijing is between April and May.)

If you are in Beijing, you’ll feel that winter is officially over when you see flowers and foliage start to emerge throughout the city. In China, peach blossoms are a symbol of the spring season with great significance in Chinese culture and mythology.

When it comes to the peach tree, just about every part of it has a rich historical and cultural significance. In Chinese Taoist mythology, the sacred tree of immortality is a peach tree. Peaches are thus considered divine fruit of the gods with the power to keep you eternally young. Peach wood is believed to ward off evil. The blossoms are also considered good luck, and symbolize a state of intense love.

Peach blossoms feature prominently in classic Chinese literature. Cao Xue Qin, author of "Dream of the Red Chamber", one of the Four Great Classical Novels, believes that women are flowers.

The flower’s literary significance is commonly supported by the Chinese people.  The breathtaking sight of trees in bloom makes for a great photo backdrop, as people take turns posing for great moments.
