Air China held a celebration at the Frankfort International Airport on May 23, 2013, to mark the opening of the direct Chengdu - Frankfurt route. This is the first direct route the Civil Aviation Administration of China has approved to connect West China with Europe. The new route makes a total of five Air China routes between China and Germany.
The opening of the Chengdu - Frankfurt route creates an air bridge for friendly exchanges between West China and Germany, and links through the aviation hub of West China and the largest aviation hub in Germany. The new flight is sure to promote cultural exchange, economic and trade cooperation and tourism development between Sichuan, West China and Hessen, Germany, and the rest of Europe. This new route makes Chengdu the third domestic city with direct flights to Frankfurt, after Beijing and Shanghai, and offers more options for Chinese passengers travelling to Frankfurt and German passengers traveling to China. The flight schedule for the new route was chosen to give passengers easy access to connecting flights, to make international trips more convenient and comfortable and to reduce travel time.
