On August 24, 2009, Air China Limited announced that it will launch the ¡°China Children Insurance Foundation¡± donation events program as of September 1, 2009. The announcement was made at a press conference at the Renaissance Beijing Hotel promoting the ¡°China Children Insurance Foundation¡±.
Starting September 1, 2009, Air China will insert a ¡°China Children Insurance Foundation¡± donation envelope in the seat pockets of outbound flights departing from Beijing, on international flights of more than four hours, and in the First and Business Class sections on inbound flights. Passengers who would like to make donations may insert money into an envelope and pass it to a flight attendant. Starting September 2, 2009, customers may choose to make an online donation when they purchase tickets on Air China¡¯s domestic website (www.airchina.com.cn). Furthermore, information about ¡°China Children Insurance Foundation¡± will be made available on Air China¡¯s 27 global websites. All in-flight and online charity fund raising activities are conducted in accordance to the highest legal standards. The charity money will be used to purchase serious disease insurance cards for children in disadvantaged areas of China that Air China has selected, and for initiating the national ¡°Orphan Protection Campaign¡± on September 15, 2009.
¡°China Children Insurance Foundation¡± is a charity project with the sole mandate of providing serious disease medical insurance for Chinese children aged between 3 and 15 through the public welfare insurance system. Air China took an active role in the operation and publicity of this foundation based on its corporate goal of ¡°fulfilling social needs and creating common value¡±. Since April 9, 2009, when Air China became one of the founders of ¡°China Children Insurance Foundation¡±, it has donated RMB 1 million to the cause, half of which was sent to Weixian County in Hebei Province to acquire serious disease insurance cards for 25,000 of its children.
