Air China to Start Beijing-Geneva Nonstop Service and Expand its Presence in Europe

A visit to Geneva on Air China gives you an experience of a lifetime

(January 24, 2013, Beijing) Air China Limited (hereinafter referred to as "Air China") recently announced that starting May 7, 2013 it will offer nonstop four-times weekly Beijing- Geneva service using Airbus A330-200. That will make Air China the world’s only carrier offering nonstop rotations between Beijing and Geneva. And the Beijing - Geneva route will become East Asia's first direct route to Geneva, offering an additional flight option to travelers to and from Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Manila. It will also facilitate the communication and exchanges between Beijing and Geneva, between China and Southeast Asian countries and Switzerland and other European regions.

Geneva is a famous international metropolis in the world and an important center of commerce in Europe. It is home to over 200 international organizations like the United Nations European Headquarters. Its breathtaking scenery and hundreds of events like conferences and exhibitions every year attract business and leisure travelers from around the world. Thus, Geneva has become an important catchment area in Europe. Meanwhile, since there have been no direct air links between Beijing and other Chinese regions and Geneva for a long time, the Chinese market with Beijing as the hub has always been regarded as a huge potential business market. So, Air China’s decision to start the Beijing - Geneva nonstop service has been enthusiastically applauded by the local government and the airport in Geneva.

Mrs Isabel ROCHAT, State Councillor (Minister) and President of the Board of Genève Aéroport said, “We are very honored that Air China has chosen Geneva for its network expansion in Europe this year. The Canton of Geneva and the whole region have very strong ties with China and both the economic and tourist sectors will strongly benefit from this direct route.”

Ambassador LIU Zhenmin, Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations Office in Geneva commented, “Air China is the national flag carrier and one of the corporate icons of China. This new Beijing-Geneva nonstop service will facilitate the communication between the two cities and friendly exchanges between China and Switzerland.”

Mr Robert DEILLON, CEO of Genève Aéroport, said, “Genève Aéroport is delighted to welcome an increasing number of Chinese visitors and will make sure to adapt its facilities accordingly and offer these customers a really dedicated airport experience.”

Air China President CAI Jianjiang said, “Europe is one of Air China’s most important overseas markets, and currently Air China is the largest carrier serving China and Europe. The opening of the nonstop service Beijing-Geneva will increase the number of European destinations served by Air China to 12. Now Air China offers direct flights from Beijing to such European destinations as Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, London, Paris, Stockholm, Milan, Rome and Madrid. And the new Beijing-Geneva service is a worthy addition to Air China’s extensive network serving Europe.”

The flight numbers of the Beijing-Geneva service will be CA861/862. The four-times weekly flight leaves Beijing at 13:30 and arrives at 18:25 in Geneva on the same day. The return flight is expected to take off from Geneva at 20:25 and arrive at the Beijing Capital International Airport at 12:55 the next day. Such flight schedules are meant to make it easier for passengers to take flights or make transfers in Geneva as well as to access optimal connections in Beijing.

China Special:

Peach blossoms brings the season of true love

In China, peach blossoms are a symbol not only of the spring season but also of significant Chinese culture and mythical beliefs (The best time for seeing flowers in bloom in Beijing is between April and May.)

If you are in Beijing, you’ll feel that winter is officially over when you see flowers and foliage start to emerge throughout the city. In China, peach blossoms are a symbol of the spring season with great significance in Chinese culture and mythology.

When it comes to the peach tree, just about every part of it has a rich historical and cultural significance. In Chinese Taoist mythology, the sacred tree of immortality is a peach tree. Peaches are thus considered divine fruit of the gods with the power to keep you eternally young. Peach wood is believed to ward off evil. The blossoms are also considered good luck, and symbolize a state of intense love.

Peach blossoms feature prominently in classic Chinese literature. Cao Xue Qin, author of "Dream of the Red Chamber", one of the Four Great Classical Novels, believes that women are flowers.

The flower’s literary significance is commonly supported by the Chinese people.  The breathtaking sight of trees in bloom makes for a great photo backdrop, as people take turns posing for great moments.
